TYLT Energi Sliding Power Case

TYLT Energi Featured

The ENERGI Sliding Power Case is exactly the type of product you need when your on the move and that awful iPhone battery is getting closer and closer to 0%. The concept behind the case is great, being a battery case when you need it to be and then your normal protective cover when you don’t need that extra juice. There are of course similar options out there on the market but TYLT’s take on the product is one to be looked at more closely.

When you first get the product out of the interesting but quite cool looking packaging you realise just how simple this product really is. It’s just your standard protective case that you can buy from any shop but the difference is that the TYLT case has grooves cut into the sides. These grooves allow you to slide the case into the lightning battery pack and start charging. The protective case on it’s own provides sufficient protection for everyday use covering both the top and sides of the phone. A small section on the bottom is left open without protection due to the case having to slide in to the power sleeve and connect with the lightning connector. The lip of the case just about rises above the screen without being noticeable when using, which should offer some degree of screen protection, but we would also suggest using a screen protector as well (case doesn’t interfere with screen protectors).  All buttons on your phone are left easily accessible with the protective case thanks to cut outs for all of them.

Main Features

  • Power sleeve contains a 2,500mAh rechargable battery
  • Can use the protective accent case with or without the power sleeve
  • Charge, sync, transfer data and still listen to music with the power sleeve on
  • LED light on rear of case indicates remaining battery capacity

With the power sleeve installed your iPhone of course gains quite a bit of bulk, and while using the phone you really can tell this, more so than some similar products. The Energi’s dimensions are 5.5 x 2.6 x 0.6 inches (Height x Width x Depth) and weighs 3.2 ounces, meaning it weights in just over the Mophie Juice Pack Helium (2.44 ounces). I found trying to remove the phone from the power sleeve a little difficult, and found the best way to do this was placing your palm on the screen of the phone and pushing upwards. Not much force was needed until it was released and I didn’t feel that it was putting the iPhone screen under too much pressure. This being said it was a bit more difficult than I thought it would be, but not a major problem.

On the rear of the case is a button which you can hold for 2 seconds to start charging, and for another 2 seconds to manually stop. An integrated LED will let you know the status of the battery by glowing green or red. As with most battery cases the headphone port is restricted for the more bulkier of headphones and so TYLT include an adapter which helps with access the port.

Overall the ENERGI is a great product. Putting aside the few minor let downs the concept of being able to remove the power sleeve and still have your phone protected by the slim case, of which you get two when purchased, is amazing. You are effectively getting 2-4-1, and what negatives are there about that. Of course in terms of cases, being a little bulky is a big thing these days and people are trying to get the slimmest battery packs out there, of which this is not.
